Xiaomi’s Rapid Growth in the Electric Vehicle Industry
Xiaomi, the tech giant best known for its smartphones, has made significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The company’s debut sedan, the SU7, launched in March 2024, has already captured attention worldwide. With over 150,000 units delivered last year, Xiaomi is setting an ambitious goal for 2025—delivering over 300,000 SU7 vehicles.
The SU7: A Blend of Affordability and Innovation
The SU7’s popularity can be attributed to its attractive pricing and versatility. Available in three versions—Standard (RMB 215,900/$29,775), Pro (RMB 245,900/$33,912), and Max (RMB 299,900/$41,360)—the sedan caters to a wide range of customers. The affordability has driven massive demand, with a waiting period of up to 20 weeks for new buyers.
Innovative Features and Upcoming Models
During a live demonstration, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun showcased the SU7’s advanced autonomous parking feature, highlighting the brand’s focus on innovation. The event also revealed a special red 15th-anniversary edition of the SU7, which is scheduled for delivery in March 2025.
In addition to the SU7, Xiaomi has plans to expand its EV lineup. The SU7 Ultra, a high-performance variant priced at RMB 814,900 ($112,385), will hit the market in March 2025. Furthermore, the company aims to introduce its first electric SUV, the YU7, by mid-2025, signaling a broader push into the EV market.
Strong December Sales Bolster Xiaomi’s Confidence
The SU7 saw exceptional sales momentum in December 2024, with over 25,000 units delivered in a single month. This robust performance has positioned Xiaomi as a serious competitor in the EV space, ready to challenge established brands.
