This new Google AI turns your search into a digital art studio

Google has introduced a groundbreaking AI tool called Nano Banana, transforming Google Search into a powerful digital art studio. The new model, powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash, enables users to create, edit, and stylize images directly within Search and NotebookLM — without switching between different apps.

This update reinforces Google’s growing commitment to embedding generative AI capabilities throughout its ecosystem, making creativity more accessible to everyday users.

Create, transform, and personalize visuals instantly

Built directly into Google Lens and AI Mode, Nano Banana introduces a new “Create” tab in Search. Users can capture or upload a photo and then use AI prompts to modify it instantly — turning real-life snapshots into cartoons, artistic renderings, or fully AI-generated visuals.

The experience is designed to rival popular AI art tools while keeping everything inside Google Search. For those who prefer to start from scratch, AI Mode allows users to generate completely new images using text descriptions, delivering speed and precision for on-the-go creativity.

Enhanced storytelling in NotebookLM

Google has also integrated Nano Banana into NotebookLM’s Video Overviews feature, which now automatically converts uploaded documents into narrated explainer videos. Users can select from six distinct artistic styles — Watercolor, Papercraft, Anime, Whiteboard, Retro Print, and Heritage — to bring their ideas to life.

Each visual is context-aware, meaning the AI pulls imagery directly from the document’s content rather than using unrelated stock art. Users can choose between a “Detailed Explainer” format or a “Brief Summary” video depending on their purpose, offering versatility for both students and professionals.

Who can benefit from Nano Banana

Whether it’s students preparing creative study notes or marketing professionals developing quick design mockups, Nano Banana acts as a “Smart Reply for visuals.” It turns written concepts into fully realized images or videos in seconds.

The model’s enhanced visual consistency— preserving facial features, composition, and artistic style across multiple images — represents a significant improvement over earlier generative AI systems. Google revealed that over five billion images have already been created using Nano Banana, underscoring its scalability and precision.

What’s next for Nano Banana

Google confirmed that Google Photos will soon integrate Nano Banana, allowing users to stylize or enhance photo memories using generative AI. The company also teased Nano Banana-enabled camera hardware, designed for real-time visual editing directly through the lens.

With Nano Banana, Google aims to redefine how users interact with visuals — merging creativity, productivity, and technology in one seamless ecosystem.
