In a major expansion of the government’s digital education initiative, Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar has announced that students from private educational institutions will now be included in the laptop scheme.

Under the newly approved plan, 10,000 free laptops will be distributed to eligible students studying in private schools. The minister confirmed that the competent authority has formally approved the decision and that the distribution process will be completed within the current year.

Speaking on the initiative, Rana Sikandar said the move aims to promote digital access and educational equity, ensuring that deserving students are supported regardless of whether they are enrolled in public or private institutions.

He further revealed that the education development budget has been increased to Rs. 110 billion, reflecting the government’s focus on improving learning infrastructure, technology access, and overall education quality across the province.

The inclusion of private school students marks a significant policy shift, as earlier laptop schemes primarily focused on public-sector institutions. Education experts believe the decision could help bridge the digital divide and support students in adapting to modern, technology-driven learning methods.
