Pakistan has successfully raised $507 million in the first stage of its inaugural 5G spectrum auction, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital connectivity expansion. The auction, conducted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), saw multiple telecom operators acquire spectrum across key frequency bands to prepare for the rollout of next-generation 5G services.
In the auction, market leader Jazz acquired a total of 190 MHz of spectrum, spanning 20 MHz in the 700 MHz band, 50 MHz in 2300 MHz, 70 MHz in 2600 MHz, and 50 MHz in the 3500 MHz band. Ufone secured 180 MHz, with 60 MHz in 2600 MHz and 120 MHz in 3500 MHz bands. Zong acquired 110 MHz, including 60 MHz in 2600 MHz and 50 MHz in 3500 MHz bands.
The successful auction demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its digital infrastructure and supporting the rollout of 5G technology across urban and enterprise markets. With enhanced spectrum holdings, telecom operators are now better positioned to deliver faster connectivity, lower latency, and advanced services for consumers and businesses.
Officials noted that the spectrum acquisition will enable operators to strengthen 4G coverage while laying the foundation for the phased introduction of 5G services. The PTA emphasized that all deployments must comply with regulatory obligations and spectrum usage guidelines to ensure efficient and fair utilization of resources.
Industry analysts highlight that this milestone is expected to accelerate digital adoption in Pakistan, improve mobile internet speeds, and support new technologies such as cloud services, smart cities, and AI-driven applications. The auction also underscores Pakistan’s growing position in the regional telecom market.
As telecom operators prepare to deploy the acquired spectrum, investments in network modernization, infrastructure expansion, and customer-centric digital services are anticipated to rise, creating opportunities for technological innovation and economic growth.
