The Punjab government has officially closed the application window for the “Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar” scheme, a project that aims to distribute 2,000 free residential plots among underprivileged families across 19 districts.
This shift marks a new phase for the initiative, which had amassed over 481,000 applications via its online registration system. Of these, around 367,000 applications have already cleared preliminary evaluation and are now under review for final eligibility.
To ensure a transparent allocation process, scrutiny committees have been established in all participating districts. These panels, chaired by local Deputy Commissioners, are tasked with verifying the shortlisted applicants and preparing reports within a 30-day timeframe.
Once the verification is complete, selected beneficiaries will not only receive plots free of charge but will also be eligible for interest-free housing loans of up to Rs1.5 million, providing financial assistance for home construction.
Housing Minister Bilal Yasin emphasized the government’s commitment to keeping the selection process free of bias and favoritism, reinforcing that decisions will be purely merit-based.
The scheme, which falls under Punjab’s broader housing strategy, is seen as a significant step toward addressing the province’s urban housing crisis and helping the working class achieve long-term residential stability.
