How to Get Your First CNIC in Pakistan: A Simple Walkthrough

Getting your first Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is an important milestone for every Pakistani citizen turning 18. Issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), this card opens the door to voting rights, banking services, SIM registration, and passport applications.

Step 1: Gather the Right Documents

Before heading to a NADRA Registration Centre, make sure you have:

  • A parent’s or sibling’s CNIC for biometric matching
  • Your Child Registration Certificate or a computerised birth certificate
  • Legal guardianship papers if applicable
  • A verified NADRA form from a gazetted officer (only if no blood relative can verify you)

Step 2: Visit the NADRA Centre

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Take a token and wait for your turn.
  • Give your fingerprints and have your biometric verified.
  • Provide personal details and have your photo taken.
  • Double-check your printed form for mistakes.
  • Get it signed by a relative or a gazetted officer.
  • Answer simple identity verification questions if needed.
