Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, is in the United Kingdom for an official three-day visit, reflecting Islamabad’s renewed focus on economic diplomacy and global innovation partnerships.
The visit, spanning August 17–19, includes crucial meetings with UK Deputy PM Angela Rayner, Hamish Falconer, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. These engagements aim to deepen cooperation across trade, governance, and digital innovation.
Beyond government-level talks, Dar will meet British parliamentarians, Kashmiri leaders, and representatives of the British-Pakistani diaspora. His outreach to communities abroad signals the importance Islamabad places on strengthening grassroots connections with overseas Pakistanis.
One of the key highlights of the visit will be the inauguration of new initiatives at the Pakistan High Commission in London. The Punjab Land Record Authority’s pilot project will allow overseas citizens to address property documentation remotely — a longstanding demand from expatriates. Additionally, the IMPASS one-window operation will improve efficiency in public service delivery for the diaspora.
Technology and entrepreneurship remain central to Dar’s agenda. The visit seeks to build collaborations in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and start-up ventures, aligning with Pakistan’s broader goal of modernizing its economy.
The Foreign Office noted that the mission demonstrates Pakistan’s approach to inclusive diplomacy — using innovation as a tool for socio-economic progress while enhancing international partnerships. It also comes on the heels of Dar chairing the ECNEC meeting in Islamabad, where 28 major development projects were approved, signalling continuity between domestic reforms and foreign engagement.
Through this visit, Pakistan hopes to position itself as a proactive partner in global conversations about digital transformation and sustainable development.
