The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that telecom services are being restored across flood-affected districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy rains and flash floods had damaged several cellular and fixed-line sites, disrupting communication for thousands of residents.
PTA officials recently met Federal Minister Amir Muqam and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan to review the situation. The authority assured that its technical teams, in collaboration with telecom operators, are working around the clock to repair and reactivate the damaged network infrastructure.
According to the PTA spokesperson, restoring communication is a top priority since it plays a central role in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations. In times of natural disasters, the ability to contact emergency services, coordinate aid, and connect families becomes critical.
The floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have left multiple areas, including Buner, without stable network coverage. Engineers are currently deployed to re-establish base stations and replace equipment damaged by rising waters. Portable mobile towers and satellite connectivity are also being considered as temporary measures to bridge service gaps.
Authorities emphasized that resilience planning for telecom infrastructure is essential, as extreme weather events continue to intensify. Past disasters, including the 2022 floods, highlighted the urgent need for climate-proof networks to ensure that communication remains uninterrupted during emergencies.
By working closely with government bodies and telecom companies, PTA is aiming to restore stability quickly and provide communities with the lifeline they urgently need.
