The World Bank has approved a $70 million loan to support Punjab’s Connected Punjab Program, a large-scale initiative aimed at expanding broadband internet access, improving digital public services, and promoting cashless payment systems across the province.
The project is part of a broader $278 million financing package designed to accelerate digital transformation in Punjab. Under the arrangement, the Punjab government will contribute $208 million, while the remaining $70 million will be financed through the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s concessional lending arm.
According to the World Bank, the initiative is intended to strengthen digital infrastructure and improve connectivity across both urban and rural areas. By expanding broadband access, the program aims to bridge the digital divide and enable more citizens to benefit from online services, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
