Vivo has officially introduced OriginOS 7, the company’s latest Android-based operating system, alongside the new Vivo X500 series in China. The software is built on Android 17 and brings a range of performance, memory management and system responsiveness improvements.
The new operating system was unveiled with the Vivo X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max. Vivo has positioned OriginOS 7 as a major software update focused on maintaining smooth performance during demanding workloads and extended everyday use.
One of the key changes is the introduction of the next-generation Origin Smooth Engine, which is designed to improve the way the operating system manages graphics processing, memory and system scheduling.
Vivo says the updated architecture is intended to deliver more consistent performance rather than simply focusing on peak processing speeds. The company claims OriginOS 7 can remain smooth even after six years of daily use.
Another major addition is Ultra-Core Computing, which dynamically distributes processing resources according to the requirements of different tasks. This approach is designed to keep the interface responsive when users are running demanding applications or switching between multiple tasks.
According to Vivo, these changes result in measurable improvements compared with the previous software version. App cold-start times are claimed to be 10% faster, while switching between app pages is reportedly 11% quicker.
Memory management has also received an upgrade through the latest version of Memory Fusion. Vivo says the system improves both memory allocation and reclamation, allowing devices to manage available resources more efficiently.
The company claims that the updated Memory Fusion system delivers 60% greater memory reclamation and can free up as much as 25GB of additional storage on a device equipped with 256GB of storage.
Graphics performance has also been targeted in OriginOS 7. Vivo has introduced a new rendering pipeline that it says improves rendering efficiency by 14.4%, potentially contributing to smoother animations and a more responsive interface.
Beyond performance improvements, OriginOS 7 also brings support for Apple products, expanding the way Vivo devices can interact with Apple’s ecosystem. The addition is part of Vivo’s broader effort to make its smartphones more convenient for users who also own devices from other technology brands.
With Android 17 at its core, OriginOS 7 represents Vivo’s latest attempt to combine the features of Google’s newest Android platform with its own system-level optimizations. The update is initially being introduced in China alongside the Vivo X500 lineup.
The new software could become an important part of Vivo’s smartphone strategy as manufacturers increasingly compete not only through hardware specifications but also through long-term software performance, device integration and user experience.
