HONOR has officially introduced the Magic9 Pro Max in China, bringing a combination of flagship performance, a massive silicon-carbon battery and a camera system designed around professional video creation.
The new smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform and features two 200MP rear cameras. HONOR has also expanded its cinematic imaging partnership with German camera technology company ARRI, bringing professional-oriented color and video tools to the Magic Series.
One of the phone’s headline camera accessories is the HONOR Teleconverter G500, which adds a 500mm-equivalent telephoto capability to the device. The optional accessory is aimed at users who want greater reach for distant subjects and more advanced mobile photography.
Display and Design
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max features a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1320 × 2868-pixel resolution and a variable refresh rate reaching up to 120Hz.
HONOR says the display can reach up to 10,000 nits of peak brightness in specific conditions, while its anti-reflective treatment is designed to improve visibility outdoors. The company has also equipped the phone with its Anti-Scratch NanoCrystal Shield for additional screen protection.
The smartphone is offered in finishes including Shadow Black, Glacier Silver and Moss Green. It also carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, providing resistance against dust and water under specified laboratory conditions.
Dual 200MP Camera System
Photography is one of the main attractions of the Magic9 Pro Max. The rear camera setup includes a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.57 aperture and optical image stabilization.
It is joined by a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/2.6 aperture and OIS. A 50MP ultrawide camera completes the rear setup. HONOR’s official specifications list 3.5x optical zoom and up to 200x digital zoom.
Both the main and telephoto cameras are designed around high-level stabilization, with HONOR stating that they achieve CIPA 8.0 stabilization performance.
The optional Teleconverter G500 further expands the phone’s photography capabilities, while the G200 teleconverter provides another option for users looking for additional focal-length flexibility.
ARRI Partnership Brings Cinema Features
HONOR has positioned the Magic9 Pro Max as more than a conventional smartphone camera. Its collaboration with ARRI brings elements of ARRI Image Science into the mobile imaging workflow.
The phone supports ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and 10-bit color recording in supported cinema modes. It also includes ARRI Looks for real-time visual previews and access to an ARRI Look Library containing 87 predefined creative color gradings.
ARRI CINEMA Mode supports video recording at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. The system is designed to provide creators with controls covering settings such as shutter speed, ISO, white balance, focus, lens selection, stabilization and exposure compensation.
HONOR has also introduced Cinematic LiveVideo, which can capture a three-second moving moment after the recording control is pressed and held, with support for up to 4K resolution.
Large 8,800mAh Battery
The Magic9 Pro Max packs an 8,800mAh battery based on typical capacity, while the rated capacity is 8,600mAh.
Charging support includes 100W wired HONOR SuperCharge and up to 80W wireless charging. The large silicon-carbon battery is designed to provide additional endurance for demanding activities such as gaming, photography and extended video recording.
The phone also includes HONOR’s Imaging Chip H1, which the company says uses a 6nm process and delivers 18.8 TOPS/W energy efficiency. Its imaging pipeline performs AI noise reduction in the RAW domain to preserve image information during processing.
Professional Video Accessories
HONOR is also building an ecosystem around the Magic9 Pro Max rather than treating the smartphone as a standalone camera.
Optional accessories include the G200 and G500 teleconverters, along with an HONOR SmallRig Mobile Video Kit. A dedicated cinematic directional microphone and stereo speakers are also part of the device’s creator-focused feature set.
The Magic9 Pro Max initially launched in China, with HONOR saying additional markets will follow. Pricing, configurations and availability will depend on the individual market.
