Pakistani Graduate Makes History with First AI Legal Assistant “AURA”

A major breakthrough in global legal technology has been led by a young Pakistani, Chaudhary Hamza Riaz, an award-winning Law graduate from Ulster University, UK. Together with Prof. Dr. Usman Hadi (School of Engineering, Ulster University), he has unveiled Aura, the UK’s first AI-powered legal assistant, designed to transform how justice is delivered.

Developed under Hamza’s leadership, Aura combines law, engineering, and artificial intelligence into one platform trained on UK statutes and case law. It can perform solicitor-level tasks such as contract drafting, precedent retrieval, compliance checks, and document review, all while meeting GDPR and SRA, LSNI standards.

Independent testing shows over 99% accuracy and a 93% reduction in case assessment time. This means thousands of people in the UK who currently cannot afford legal representation, or who face years-long delays in courts, could soon have a faster and more affordable path to justice.

Speaking about the achievement, Hamza said:

“Aura is not just about efficiency, it is about justice. Too many people are priced out of legal help or face endless delays. Aura gives them hope.”

Prof. Hadi praised the innovation, saying:

“Aura is an excellent example of how interdisciplinary research across engineering, AI, and law can improve access to justice for the masses. It shows how technology can meaningfully support solicitors while enhancing availability of legal services to wider society.”

For Pakistan, this achievement is a matter of pride, Hamza has not only excelled at a world-class university but has also created a product that could rewrite the future of justice in the UK. And this is just the beginning: plans are already in motion to expand Aura across the world, bringing faster, fairer, and more affordable justice to every society where access remains out of reach.
