The government is moving closer to launching a mobile application designed to provide petrol subsidies to low-income individuals amid the ongoing energy crisis. Developed by the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecom, the app is currently undergoing final testing before a nationwide rollout.
The subsidy program primarily targets owners of two- and three-wheeler vehicles, including motorcycles and rickshaws. Early proposals suggest a monthly petrol quota of 20 litres for motorcycles, ensuring that those most affected by rising fuel prices receive direct support.
Officials say the initiative aims to make subsidy distribution more efficient and transparent, reducing delays and targeting benefits to eligible recipients. By leveraging digital tools, the government hopes to streamline the process and minimize misuse of funds.
The app is expected to allow users to register, verify eligibility, and claim petrol subsidies directly, ensuring low-income groups can access financial relief without relying on manual processes. Authorities are also exploring mechanisms to integrate the program with existing digital payment systems for ease of use.
This move comes as fuel prices continue to surge, putting pressure on the transport sector and low-income commuters. By targeting motorcycles and rickshaws, the government aims to support individuals who rely heavily on fuel for daily work and transportation.
With testing underway, the app is expected to launch soon, marking a major step in the government’s efforts to address energy affordability and provide relief to vulnerable populations across Pakistan.
